Molecular Viewing Galleries

The DCU Molecular Viewing Galleries currently contain over 400 molecules, organised alphabetically and viewable in pairs in adjacent viewing frames. It is intended to eventually organise them into categories, e.g. based on common functional groups etc., and to provide less cryptic chemical names.

The most recent variant of the gallery does not require a plug-in for your browser.   It utilises the Jmol applet to render the molecule in interactive 3D format on your screen and is the most convenient to use if you haven't yet installed the CHIME plug-in.

Two of the older versions are CHIME-based, using the CHIME plug-in for viewing the interactive molecules which are generated by CHIME from molecular modelling files presented either in .pdb format, for molecules containing solely single bonds, or in MDL .mol file format for those containing multiply bonded atoms.  The CHIME plug-in may be downloaded free of charge.

I would appreciate being notified by e-mail to albert.pratt@dcu.ie of any difficulties encountered in using the galleries or of errors found.

Tutorial on the use of Jmol and CHIME are available.
