Colum Kenny has designed and delivered a range of innovative journalism and communications modules at Dublin City University.

His main research interests include broadcasting, journalism, culture and history.

A former employee of RTÉ, and member of the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (1998-2003).

Elected an honorary life member of Glencree Centre for Reconciliation.

Dr Kenny is the author of nine books (see Books) and many articles.

He is a founding board member of the EU Media Desk, Ireland.

A practising barrister (1974-1977), and television reporter and presenter at RTÉ (1977-82), Colum Kenny was recruited by Dublin City University (then N.I.H.E.) as one of the team that developed its pioneering communications programmes. He has served as Chairperson of the Masters in Journalism Course and as a member of DCU Academic Council. In 2004, he was appointed to the adjunct faculty of Boston University, and was chair of the National Association for Audiovisual Training from 1992 to 1994. He is the author of academic articles and essays on the regulation of broadcasting, and has also written frequently for the national newspapers on media policy and culture. He currently contributes a column to the Sunday Independent.
