Dr Vicky Conway appointed to the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland

Dr Vicky Conway of the DCU School of Law and Government has been appointed by the Government to the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland.

Dr Conway is one of 11 members appointed to the Independent commission and tasked with examining the structure of the force, the culture and ethos, recruitment, training and management. The oversight and accountability and whether the Policing Authority and the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission should be given more powers will also form part of the scope of the inquiry. It will be chaired by Kathleen O’Toole, the Chief of the Seattle Police Department and former Chief Inspector of the Garda Inspectorate.

Dr Conway joined the School of Law and Government in 2015 and teaches across a range of modules related to criminal justice and the operation of the legal system in Ireland. She has been a member of the Policing Authority since 2015 and is a leading researcher on policing in Ireland, with an emphasis on the intersection between social change, police culture and police accountability.
