DCU and 30% Club address gender imbalance with scholarship for female executives

DCU and 30% Club address gender imbalance with scholarship for female executives

€10,000 bursary for postgraduate study at DCU Business School

Dublin City University is calling on ambitious female executives looking to advance their career in leadership and management to apply for the DCU 30% Club Scholarship for postgraduate study in the DCU Business School.

Research carried out on behalf of the 30% Club by Dr Melrona Kirrane, Lecturer in Organisational Psychology at DCU Business School, has shown that women occupy a disproportionately low number of managerial roles across organisation types, sectors and size. While at the most junior level of management, women occupy 40% of positions, their representation falls significantly at each subsequent stage of the management hierarchy.

DCU is committed to addressing this imbalance by offering one female candidate an opportunity to further their career by studying a programme of their choice.

Commenting on the scholarship, Anne Sinnot, Executive Dean at DCU Business School, said: "DCU Business School is delighted to provide this open scholarship which permits candidates to choose from a wide range of general and specialist programmes tailored to different career stages. We are confident that the successful scholar will undergo a transformational learning experience that will directly impact on her career trajectory."

The 30% Club is a global movement of international Chairs and CEOs who are committed to better gender balance at all levels of their organisations through voluntary actions. The movement aims to reach a 30% female gender balance on Irish boards and executive management level by 2020.

Brid Horan, 30% Club Steering Committee member, commended DCU for the continuation of this scholarship support in 2017 and highlighted the importance of making women more aware of executive education as a means to develop their skills and career. “This scholarship is an important element of DCU’s support for the work of the 30% Club and offers valuable support to the winner”.

The closing date for applications is Thursday 25th May. For further details and for a list of full and part-time postgraduate programmes currently offered by DCU Business School visit https://www.dcu.ie/dcubs/30-club-dcu-postgraduate-scholarship.shtml
