Dr. Michael Courtney is a postdoctoral fellow in the School of Law and Government. His current research is funded by the Irish Research Council. It examines the relationship between gendered media coverage of female political leaders and financial markets' assessments of countries' macroeconomic performance. He received a PhD in Political Science from Trinity College Dublin in 2014 and a B.A. in Economics, Politics and Law from Dublin City University in 2009. He has published in Irish Political Studies and presented at major international conferences including the annual meetings of the American Political Science Association, the Mid-West Political Science Association's Annual Meeting and the European Political Science Association. He is a former postgraduate representative on the committee of the Political Science Association of Ireland and organised the association's annual conference in 2011.
