Biographical Details

Dr Ger Scanlon has a broad background in education with experience across several educational settings including early year’s provision,post primary education, post leaving certificate, and third level. Her interests in Experimental Psychology; Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA);School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support Programmes (SWPBS); Inclusive Education; Transitions (s) and Research has lead her to a develop a wide range of national and international  projects in Poland and Bulgaria. As a practicing chartered psychologist her more recent work has moved towards a Human Rights Agenda specifically for children and young adults with disabilities in Ireland. Her current project funded by the Irish Research Council is concerned with extending choice to young people with an Intellectual Disability on leaving school to avail of the same educational opportunities as their peers who do not have an intellectual disability. Her expertise in Inclusive education has lead to her appointment as an international consultant to support UNICEF Bulgaria on developing an Inclusive Framework for Kindergartens as a result of their new educational legislation.  This entails  two large scale research projects on teachers attitudes to inclusion and the impact of targeted interventions on their practice.
