Dr Máire Ní Bhroin, (BEd, Art Dip, Dip Special Ed, MEd, PhD) is Subject Leader of the Visual Arts Unit in the School of Arts Education and Movement DCU. She coordinates the Visual Arts Modules taught on the BEd, In-Service and MEd programmes and is currently supervising Doctoral research on arts rich classrooms in the primary school.
As well as teaching students how to implement all areas of the Visual Arts Curriculum in primary school, Dr Ní Bhroin specialises in teaching picture book illustration, writing and animation, claymation techniques, printing and history of art.
Her research interests include: meanings in children’s art; assessment in visual arts education; integrating arts across the curriculum; digital media in art-making and the teacher as artist.
Her art practice focuses on drawing, painting and photography.
Previously a primary teacher, Dr Ní Bhroin is involved in Reflective Practice and Analysis of Teaching Tutorials with students. She supervises BEd4 students doing their final year dissertations. She also teaches on the Early Childhood Education Course, having completed research on the interrelationships between young children’s art, their play and their real lives.
Dr Ní Bhroin is Research Convenor in the School of Arts Education and Movement in the Faculty of Education. She serves on the BEd Programme Board DCU and is also a member of the Contemporary Arts Society, Ireland.
